Hands On Atlanta

so last Thursday i volunteered to go and help out Hands On Atlanta. they are pretty much an organization who's mission is to "We tackle Greater Atlanta's most pressing needs by igniting a passion for service and creating lifelong community volunteers." last post i spoke about how helping usually makes me feel a lot better. so i decided to volunteer with them from 10am-2p. (i'll be honest, i stayed until like 1:20, was starvingggg lol). but when i arrived. i clicked up with two ladies who have been volunteering with them for the last couple of days. they filled me in on what we were doing for the day. and then we all started working.

the first thing we did was set up the upstairs room in sections to place the items from downstairs on. we went and grabbed carts (all different kinds) and lifting equipment and went and started placing the food onto the carts. when we came downstairs to grab the food, i was so amazed! there were at least 50+ bikes for kids, tons and tons of food boxes like mac and cheese, juices, yogurt, ravioli, chips, and so much more. we grabbed those and took them to the upstairs room where some of the other volunteers were unboxing the boxes to take the food out individually. than after taking the food out, another group was going to come and separate them and than hand the bags out to the kids.

what i liked about the experience was:

1.) location: it was super close to my apt. so whenever i volunteer with them (yes, i plan on volunteering more with them, especially on my off days. lol) and driving up to the building i would've never guessed that all those things were in there. but the location was just perfect.

2.) people: i guess everyone that volunteers must be pretty nice. but the people i meant there were so nice. most of them were a bit older than me, but the conversations and just laughing and the teamwork we all had just made the experience something that you would want to come back to.

3.) motivation: helping people today was more about me feeling better and wanting to share my positive mood tbh. but today everything and everyone really just motivated me to not only want to do more for people.
